Director of Primary Prevention, Foster Pet Program (Salary Exempt Full-Time)
The Director of Primary Prevention (DPP) reports to the Senior Director of Advocacy Services and Operations and is responsible for the successful management of the Foster Pet Program and the pet abuse prevention outreach for Beacon of Hope Crisis Center. The DPP is responsible for the strategy, growth, implementation, and overall success of the Foster Pet Program. The DPP oversees FVPSA Prevention and the Foster Pet Sanctuary. The DPP is responsible for implementing pet programs that ensure overall pet safety and welfare. This role is responsible for seeking direct sources of funding and pursuing and playing a huge part in conveying the vision through storytelling and evidentiary data in the grant writing process. Program strategic planning, quality service focus, and a big-picture mindset are all imperative to growing and sustaining the program and sanctuary. This position is responsible for ensuring that all program and pet volunteers receive appropriate training. Must possess a thorough understanding of adequate pet care and perform inspections of foster homes as needed. Must promote the program and seek and give presentations to a variety of audiences.
Primary responsibilities:
Continued education and training on domestic violence and sexual assault.
Maintain professionalism always, including:
Positive rapport with collaborative partners.
Positive rapport with victims.
Maintains and regularly updates client database which includes entering all primary FVPSA intakes and providing monthly data to the Victim Advocate/Data Analyst for review.
Recruits, interviews, orients, evaluates, places, and schedules prospective foster pet volunteers; coordinates volunteer service with the Volunteer Recruiter to help achieve the mission of the organization.
Trains volunteers on their roles and responsibilities in relation to the foster home standards; completes home inspections as necessary to ensure program compliance and pet safety.
Confers regularly with staff of Beacon of Hope Crisis Center, volunteer groups, and individuals regarding utilization, training, retention, and evaluation of foster pet and pet services volunteers.
Oversees and ensures placement of Beacon of Hope Crisis Center or partner agencies' clients' pets in foster homes or safe shelters.
Provides prevention education and awareness to the community, educating about the link between pet abuse and domestic violence.
Assists in the coordination of public education, and community group presentations; explains foster home policies and procedures and the role of the foster home program to the public.
Coordinates community service workers, student programs, and general relief programs; plans and executes volunteer activities, recognition, and foster home events.
Maintains records, correspondence, and statistics regarding the volunteer foster home program.
Responds over the phone and/or in writing to requests for information from the community regarding specific pet volunteer questions or inquiries about becoming a foster home in conjunction with other advocacy staff and volunteers.
Writes and submits reports regarding current and proposed volunteer programs, incident or disciplinary reports, and recommendations for proposed outreach activities and programs specifically in relation to Pet Service.
Researches and applies for potential grants regarding animal safety and welfare.
Assist the CEO and/or Senior Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance with public outreach related to domestic violence, sexual assault, victim advocacy, and our services when requested.
Communicates with the leadership team to understand and support victim needs, while continually supporting all BOHCC initiatives.
Must maintain proactive and timely communication with BOHCC Leadership.
Assists with in-kind donation program, as it relates to outreach and volunteer opportunities.
On-going maintenance of data and records as related to the pet program.
Fosters an environment of respect with clients, callers, and staff.
Works with other agency staff on projects and initiatives as directed.
Attends all staff meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
A degree in social work, human services, nursing, psychology, criminal justice, criminology, related field, or previous experience working with traumatized persons. In lieu of a degree, a qualified candidate must have at least four years of extensive nonprofit, trauma-informed, veterinary environment, or management experience. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of demonstrated program leadership ability. Valid Indiana driver’s license, full coverage auto insurance, and reliable transportation required. Bilingual candidates will be strongly considered. Qualified candidates must be familiar with the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, and experienced with public speaking, training, and working with diverse populations.
Applicant must have excellent written, verbal and computer skills; must be a self-starter; able to reach and work with a wide diverse population; able to respect the confidentiality of the work that is performed at Beacon of Hope; have good record-keeping skills; and able to multi-task to handle multiple various projects. Able to adhere to strict standards of confidentiality and successful clearance of a criminal background check. Commitment to a non-violent and cooperative work environment. Must understand victimology, crisis intervention, cultural/ethnic diversity, and applicable state victims’ rights/laws. Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and includes the potential for hybrid remote work occasionally. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Any role that permits remote work fully or in part requires the applicant to personally have in place prior to the start date of employment and throughout employment, an adequate internet speed for upload and download, which is a speed of at least 5Mbps, and utilize a secure network requiring a password (known as an encryption key) when doing any BOHCC work. Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role; much of the time you will be sitting at a desk using a computer and talking on the phone. Must be comfortable standing and presenting to others. Must be comfortable presenting in a digital video conference virtual environment sometimes. Must be comfortable doing site visits and transporting as necessary. Must be able to lift small pets and pet carriers. Some filing is required, and this would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary. Must be comfortable talking on the phone for long periods and utilizing Bluetooth ear devices.
