How We Help

How We Help
At Beacon of Hope Crisis Center, our goal is to help individuals achieve safety and stability after experiencing domestic violence or sexual assault. We provide confidential, no-cost support to those in unsafe home situations.

As a nonprofit organization, we offer guidance and practical resources. Our work is founded on care, trust, and respect for every person who seeks our assistance. We partner with hospitals, law enforcement, legal offices, community groups, and other service providers throughout Central Indiana to ensure that those in need receive appropriate support.

How We Reach Out — And How You Can Connect
When someone is facing an unsafe situation or is unsure of where to turn, connecting with support can be life-changing. Here's how people can reach us and what they can expect:

1.    Crisis Call Line

You can call us directly for support. Our team is available to listen and respond with care, whether you need to talk, ask for help, or get information about what to do next.

2.    Connecting with Other Agencies

We are committed to ensuring individuals receive the services they need. If we do not directly offer a specific service, we will connect them with trusted partner agencies that can. We frequently collaborate with various organizations, including housing programs, healthcare providers, and legal services, to comprehensively address all needs.

3.    Creative Healing Through Art
Our “Take It Out in Art” program offers a creative outlet for healing. Through guided watercolor classes, participants can explore and express their feelings in a calm, supportive environment.

4.    Privacy and Respect
When someone comes to us, we treat their story with the utmost care and discretion. We don't make decisions for them; instead, we walk alongside them as they take steps forward.

What Services We Offer
Here’s a simple breakdown of the support we offer — at no cost — to those who need help:

Personal Support and Guidance

•    Emotional encouragement and listening support.
•    Help with important documents such as protection orders or paperwork for other services.
•    Providing support during legal appointments, hospital visits, or safety planning meetings.

Safety Planning and Legal System Navigation

•    Help with developing a personalized plan to stay safe.
•    Information on legal options and guidance through the process.
•    Connecting with health and wellness services when needed.

Practical Life Support
•    Help with financial tools, job readiness, and getting back on your feet.
•    We assist with things like transportation needs or dealing with landlords, bills, or other life challenges.

Foster Pet Program
We understand that individuals fleeing domestic violence may delay seeking help due to concerns about their pets. To address this, we offer short-term pet care services for those who are actively leaving an abusive situation.

Community Awareness and Outreach
We offer talks, presentations, and learning sessions focused on understanding safe relationships and supporting individuals experiencing domestic violence or sexual assault.

Creative Support: Art as Expression

Our free watercolor classes (Take It Out in Art) provide a peaceful environment for individuals to express their emotions creatively, without the pressure of verbalizing their experiences. It's a supportive and quiet space where participants can engage in artistic expression.

Why This Work Matters

1.    We guide, not judge. We are dedicated to providing compassionate guidance without judgment. Our staff is available to support individuals through various needs, whether it's accompanying them to court, a doctor's appointment, or simply being present to offer support.
2.    Building a stronger life takes more than one step. We are dedicated to helping individuals not only escape unsafe situations but also move forward with the essential tools, support, and hope they need to thrive.
3.    Healing looks different for everyone. We understand that healing is a unique and personal journey for everyone. Some find solace in conversation, while others express themselves through art or simply need a supportive presence. We are committed to offering a variety of approaches to help you move forward at your own pace, ensuring you find the path that best suits your needs.
4.    Every part of your life matters. We believe that every part of your life matters. This includes your pets, your finances, and your sense of calm. Our aim is to provide comprehensive care that addresses all aspects of your story, not just a portion of it.

If you or someone you care about is facing a difficult situation and needs support, please know that we are here to listen and help. We are committed to walking with you every step of the way.
