BOARD MEMBER VOLUNTEER POSITION

Board Purpose
The purpose of the Beacon of Hope Crisis Center Board of Directors is to help the organization pursue its mission of empowering victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to become self-sufficient by providing safety, education, and support. We’re seeking board members who will be enthusiastic partners. To this end, the board provides support through governance, strategic planning, fundraising, and outreach. Beacon of Hope Crisis Center is located in and primarily serves Indiana. This opportunity is a volunteer position.
Board members must have the following capabilities and qualities:

Board Selection Process:
  1. Complete this brief online board application. Attach your resume to the application before hitting submit.
  2. After reviewing your application, we will arrange a meeting or phone conversation with the Board Chair and/or CEO and another Board Member to discuss your interests, availability, and a possible role for you on our Board.
  3. The Board will vote to approve your membership at or before the next bi-monthly virtual meeting.
  4. You sign our Board Agreement & receive board member materials.
  5. You attend the next Board bi-monthly virtual meeting.

    • Commitment to Beacon of Hope Crisis Center's (BOHCC) mission.
    • An understanding that our board is Christ-led which to us means that we pray before our bi-monthly meetings.     • Willingness to be a team player and an empathetic, thoughtful listener.
    • Willingness to complete a thorough background check.
    • Willingness to adhere to strict confidentiality and have a deep understanding of the importance of federal compliance and safety surrounding our human-rights-focused work serving victims of crime.
    • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: finance, fundraising, strategic planning, governance, education, or personnel. (Previous board experience preferred but not required).
    • Willingness to commit to three years of Board service.
    • Willingness to start up, facilitate, and serve on at least one committee and actively participate.
    • Willingness to commit time for bi-monthly virtual board meetings, and board sustainability meetings.  Board sustainability meetings involve voting board members discussing, strategizing, and stepping up to do work themselves that fosters financial sustainability for the agency without putting additional tasks and more work on the agency’s CEO and staff.
    • Willingness to accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time.
    • Willingness to participate in BOHCC’s fundraising efforts by actively seeking new donors (individual and/or institutional) and stewarding current donors.
    • Commitment to participate at least once a year in a board and staff mingle.
    • Recognizing BOHCC as one of your top three priorities for personal giving and willingness to make a personally meaningful financial contribution to it each year.
    • Willing to promote the purpose and agenda of the organization in your daily life by attending networking events, hosting/coordinating events, and actively seeking publicity, connections, and funding.
    • Willing to use your networks and Indiana connections to promote the purpose and agenda of the organization.
