Director of Domestic Violence Prevention (Full-Time)
This is a full-time salary position.
The Director of Domestic Violence Prevention (DDVP) is responsible for overseeing, leading, and providing support to the Crisis Call Prevention and Intervention Team at Beacon of Hope Crisis Center (BOHCC). BOHCC’s Crisis Call Prevention and Intervention Team includes advocacy staff, interns, and volunteers. The DDVP is to be an informed source for these advocates in working with clients and how to provide high-quality services. This position reports to the Senior Director. Members of the Crisis Call Prevention and Intervention Team are the first point of contact for clients reaching out through our crisis line and providing ongoing advocacy services for domestic violence victims who either have not contacted law enforcement, or it has been more than 2 years since law enforcement was involved. This position assists both adult and child victims. The DDVP serves as an informed source of support to the victim and works closely with various community organizations and legal services to successfully support the victim and Beacon of Hope Crisis Center programs.
The DDVP ensures the team is fully trained and equipped to fulfill their duties as well as manages their schedules and actively engages in the hiring of these candidates.
Primary Responsibilities:
Continuing education and training on domestic violence.
Oversees answering all incoming calls (crisis calls, informational calls, follow-up contact calls, and calls for staff members)
Oversees the completion of and completes crisis call intake forms with callers to determine program eligibility and following services.
Gathers accurate detailed information and maintains a high attention to detail in all records and note-taking.
Ensures phone lines, any hold music, and internet connectivity for intake data are all functioning optimally. Troubleshoot phone-related issues, manage access to services, and manage communication challenges and changes as needed with our communication service providers.
Ensures all community-based referrals are regularly updated to provide quality referrals to incoming crisis callers and communicate updates to BOHCC advocates.
Maintains accurate, complete, and timely information on callers through BOHCC’s intake process. Makes certain that the database is accurate and current at all times, ensuring the integrity of our data and optimal quality of service provision.
Represents BOHCC on the telephone with other agencies and the community at large.
Ensure access to anyone reaching out in need of services. Become familiar with our extensive disability accommodation tools on our website, guiding those in need of services on how to access them in the way that is needed.
Works with our language interpretation and translation services providers to meet the needs of anyone contacting us for assistance.
Ensures program grant goals and objectives are being met, through attention to detail, strategic planning, and problem-solving.
Maintains a professionally appropriate, clean, and organized workspace in remote and office settings.
Maintains professionalism always, including:
Positive rapport with collaborative partners.
Positive rapport with victims.
Ensures victims are referred and have access to emergency support services, including:
Emergency financial assistance for food, clothing, or other items related to getting out of the immediate crisis.
Emergency and essential transportation assistance to a safe shelter or essential appointments to aid in increased self-sufficiency.
Emergency hotel stays when shelter beds are full and/or while arranging other optimal housing whether transitional or permanent.
Connects victims to necessary counseling and/or other professional services, including:
Medical/Dental advocacy – assisting in medical and dental services offered reduced or free through BOHCC service partners for injuries related to domestic violence or sexual assault.
Personal advocacy – including securing rights, remedies, and services from other agencies.
Victim Compensation Assistance/Advocacy.
Provides the appropriate referral to victims, if BOHCC cannot provide what is needed for victims (note that we have a process we follow for recommending referral resources.)
Provides ongoing prevention services when appropriate such as safety planning, protective orders, education about domestic violence, rights, etc.
Passes along important information to the leadership team that falls outside the scope of direct client service. Support and expand on existing programs with the services of volunteers, including:
Safety Planning
Crisis Intervention services and emotional support
Life Skills Training/Economic self-sufficiency training
Pet Safety Assistance
Completes all monthly and annual program data for the Crisis Call Intervention and Prevention Team.
Maintains and regularly updates client database and provides monthly and annual data to the designated Data Analyst, copying the Senior Director.
Maintains and regularly updates BOHCC information on other program agencies' databases such as Indiana 211, Domestic Shelters, etc.
Send quarterly updates about agency information on sites being updated.
Alert senior leadership team upon external databases for double-compliance check of thoroughness and accuracy of agency data.
Provides ongoing advocacy services to victims.
Monitors the security system and responds to alarms appropriately and is up to date on all safety and security protocols for the agency.
Perform security checks within the facility.
Fosters an environment of respect for clients, callers, and staff.
Organizes crisis call intervention training and oversees the Intervention and Prevention Coordinator’s quality and delivery of hands-on training, scheduling, and other logistics as needed for all staff, volunteers, and interns.
Assists CEO with public outreach related to domestic violence, victim advocacy, and BOHCC services when requested.
Attend all staff meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
4-5 years of advocacy, trauma-informed, or nursing experience, and evidence of past job experience overseeing direct reports with a proven track record of quality service and program growth is required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, and applicants with a degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field and those who are bilingual will be strongly considered. Valid Indiana driver’s license, full coverage auto insurance, and reliable transportation required. Applicants must have excellent written, verbal, and computer skills; must be a self-starter; to reach and work with a wide, diverse population; be able to respect the confidentiality of the work that is performed at Beacon of Hope; have good record-keeping skills; and able to multi-task to handle multiple various projects. Able to adhere to strict standards of confidentiality and successfully clearance of a criminal background check. Commitment to a non-violent and cooperative work environment. All advocates must have a thorough understanding of the criminal justice system, victimology, crisis intervention, and applicable state victims’ rights/laws. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment and includes the potential for hybrid remote work occasionally. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Any role that permits remote work fully or in part requires the applicant to personally have in place before the start date of employment and throughout employment, an adequate internet speed for upload and download, which is a speed of at least 5Mbps, and utilize a secure network requiring a password (known as an encryption key) when doing any BOHCC work.
Physical Demands This is largely a sedentary role; you will be sitting at a desk using a computer and talking on the phone about 98% of the time. Some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand as necessary, be comfortable talking on the phone for long periods, and utilize Bluetooth ear devices.
