October 2nd: Day of Unity The first national “Day of Unity” was observed in October 1981. Now we recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) every October. We take this time to unite as advocates across the nation in an effort to end domestic violence.
October 16th, Monday: Make An Impact Monday Share posts to raise awareness, talk about domestic violence within your network, and spread the word about the importance of domestic violence victim services.
October 17th, Tuesday: Tech Abuse Prevention Tuesday DV clients endure a high percentage of stalking and harassment victimization. Our agency can now assist with checking a victim's vehicle for tracking devices and if found that information can be added to a protective order request for the court's consideration.
October 18th, Wednesday: We Help Reduce Crime Wednesday Providing victims with intervention and prevention services helps to reduce crime in our community. When we can intervene early and get victims safe before domestic violence escalates, we are helping to reduce violence and the chance for felony assaults and domestic homicides.
October 19th, Thursday: Purple Thursday Purple Thursday, a day we proudly wear our purple to show survivors of domestic violence that help is here. Survivors should not have to experience violence let alone heal from it alone. We are encouraging you to proudly wear purple to show support and stand as an ally to survivors of domestic violence.
October 20th, Friday: Trauma-Informed Care Friday Trauma-informed care in advocacy requires listening and understanding a victim's life experiences to deliver effective advocacy services and has the potential to improve victim engagement, safety, independence, and self-sufficiency adherence, health outcomes, and overall healing and wellness. We continue to enhance our intake process and access to services.
