 Crisis Intervention Specialist

The Crisis Intervention Specialist serves as the first point of contact for clients calling the crisis center. Obtaining experience in crisis intervention is vital for anyone looking to enter the fields of criminal justice, social services, etc. Personal experience working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault crime presents a unique opportunity to build your resume. The Crisis Intervention Specialist will field incoming calls to crisis lines, complete the intake process for new clients, provide referrals, and connect victims to advocates. Crisis Intervention Specialists will also have the opportunity to shadow Victim Advocates assisting with protective order filing, safety planning, etc.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Gain Education in the Following Areas:
    • Domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, child abuse, elder abuse, and strangulation
    • Helping those we serve to address important problems keeping them from getting safe
    • Victim rights in civil and criminal justice systems
    • Requirements and process for filing a protective order
  • Become familiar with resources to verify court information and offender status updates.
  • Shadow Victim Advocate meetings including intakes, protective orders, and safety planning.
  • Answering all incoming calls, including crisis calls, informational calls, follow-up contact calls, and calls for staff members.
  • Completing crisis call assessment forms with callers to determine program eligibility and appropriateness.
  • Following agency rules and protocols for admitting people to the center.
  • Fostering an environment of respect with clients, callers, and staff.
  • Supporting other staff as needed including:
    • Providing the victims with empathy and support.
    • Providing the victims with resources and referrals for medical, legal, shelter/housing, employment, counseling/support groups assistance.
    • Providing follow-ups.

  • Commitment to a non-violent and cooperative work environment
  • Commitment to providing quality services to all clients regardless of race, sex, religion, age or national origin
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

 Foster Pet Program Intern (Prevention Victim Advocate)

The Foster Pet Program Intern reports to the Volunteer Recruitment Manager and works closely with the Director of Primary Prevention (DPP). The Foster Pet Program Intern provides administrative and program support to the Foster Pet Program. The Foster Pet Program Intern will assist with marketing, fundraising activities, community presentations, coordinating pet transfer, and picking up donations for the Foster Pet Program and among other duties as needs arise. The intern will abide by all Beacon of Hope Crisis Center’s Confidentiality Policies and understand the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Preparing material for prevention seminars, outreach programs and marketing via social media
  • Accompanying and assisting the DPP at events
  • Accompanying and assisting the DPP with the transfer of pets (picking up and dropping off pets to and from foster families, animal clinics for spay/neuter procedures, vaccinations, or microchipping)
  • Marketing the program to shelters, veterinarians, community donors, etc. with approved materials
  • Distributing marketing material throughout the community upon request
  • Organizing fundraisers to help with vet bills, food, and supplies
  • Picking up pet supplies from donors
  • Maintain professionalism at all times including:
    • Positive rapport with collaborative partners and express only positive feedback.
    • Positive rapport with victims
  • Providing clients with information and support as appropriate
  • Ensuring the completion of forms by the victim (victim and pet information, intake/assessment forms, agreement, releases of liability form, etc.)

 Criminal Justice Intern (Victim Advocate)

The Criminal Justice Intern serves under the Criminal Justice Program which aims to break the cycle of abuse, educate victims about resources, and support them to achieve a life free from the grip of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Criminal Justice Intern reports to the Volunteer Recruitment Manager and works closely with our advocacy team. Beacon of Hope has formulated partnerships with police departments in Central Indiana. Victim Advocates respond to police reports to offer victims services, safety planning and address other needs that they may have. The Criminal Justice Intern helps Victim Advocates to better serve our clients.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Gain Education in the Following Areas:
    • Domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, child abuse, elder abuse, and strangulation
    • Helping those we serve to address important problems keeping them from getting safe
    • Victim rights in civil and criminal justice systems
    • Requirements and process for filing a protective order
    • Crime Victims Compensation
  • Become familiar with resources to verify court information and offender status updates.
  • Shadow Victim Advocate meetings including intakes, protective orders, and safety planning.
  • Accompany and assist the PO Victim Advocate for court accompaniment (as needed).
  • Complete personalized research to help victims obtain long-term housing and employment.
  • Complete research to help victims with resources and referrals for medical, legal, counseling/support groups, etc.
  • Assist with other tasks to help the advocacy team meet the needs of victims.
  • Research laws related to domestic violence and sexual assaults.
  • DOES NOT give legal advice, always refers the victims to their attorneys.
  • DOES NOT talk in court, even when judge asks the questions – The intern must review court accompaniment guidelines in order to attend and adhere to all BOHCC policies.

Communications Intern

The Communications Intern is responsible for creating content for Beacon of Hope Crisis Center to be used online, in social media, and through other communications. We are looking for a passionate individual to bring bright ideas to Beacon of Hope Crisis  Center that increase education and awareness within the community. This position will allow flexibility based on an applicant's unique skills and career goals, maximizing your experience and building your resume. The Communications Intern will be expected to collaborate with the team on big projects and fundraising events.  Ideal candidates have exceptional writing, grammar, and creative design skills. Strengths in these areas are needed for this individual to be optimally successful in this internship role.

Fundraising Intern

​The Fundraising Intern works alongside Beacon of Hope Crisis Center’s Board of Directors and reports to the Volunteer Recruiter. They are responsible for assisting with outreach efforts to maintain and grow our donor network. This position requires a minimum commitment of 12 weeks. Schedules may vary and could include regular business hours and evenings. Majority of this role will be completed in a remote, at-home office setting. There will be certain off-site presentations or events the intern will be expected to participate in, potentially outside normal business hours.

Beacon of Hope Crisis Center (BOHCC) is a Christ-centered organization, which means we follow Christ’s example of love and kindness toward all. As a representative of BOHCC, the Fundraising Intern must put forth and practice these values in all interactions with the broader community. The Fundraising Intern will act as an ambassador of Beacon of Hope Crisis Center, positively representing the agency’s mission and vision to those who are unfamiliar with our organization. This person must not only have a nuanced and holistic understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault but bring new knowledge to the agency on how to creatively engage new and existing donors.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist with outreach efforts to expand BOHCC’s donor network
  • Draft communication materials and content to increase donations
  • Suggest and implement new ways to keep donors engaged
  • Research fundraising opportunities to increase revenue (grants, private sources, etc.)
  • Make professional phone calls to potential donors
  • Follow up with event sponsors or donors
  • Help to organize and increase donor outreach efforts
  • Assist the Board of Directors with miscellaneous tasks
