By Sandra K. Ziebold HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT!!! Beacon of Hope just received word from The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute that our Federal agency funding has been INCREASED by over 200% effective immediately.
We are beyond ecstatic and are proud of the clear vote of confidence this decision shows in our incredible staff and the excellent services we are providing direct to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in our community. BUT HERE IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP! Federal monies are always awarded with the condition that individuals and corporations in the community will contribute at least 20% of the money needed to fund the approved programs. In other words, the community that benefits must “have some skin in the game.” So, our funding has increased 200% and now our corporate and individual partnerships must increase 200%. THAT MUST START NOW. This is your chance to make a difference and to help stop the violence in your community. GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND PRESS “DONATE NOW”, SIGN UP YOUR BUSINESS TO BE A CORPORATE SPONSOR OF OUR AGENCY, A PROGRAM OR ONE OF OUR UPCOMING EVENTS. You can also help by spreading the word and sharing this message with all of your friends on each of your social networks. Thank you in advance for your help and your much needed prayers.

The Impact of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault on Businesses is financially mind-boggling and the toll on individuals and team culture is horrific. Listening and having conversations with corporate boards, executive management teams, lunch-n-learns with corporate employees, awareness speaking engagements and community events are all a vital part of how we educate and assist the businesses in our community. Beacon of Hope raises public awareness about domestic and sexual violence and the tremendous emotional, physical and economic cost of this violence. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the cost of intimate partner rape, physical assault and stalking totals $5.8 billion each year for direct medical and mental health care services and lost productivity from paid work and household chores. Of this, total productivity losses accounted for nearly $1.8 billion in the United States in 1995. When updated in 2003 the cost of intimate partner rape, physical assault and stalking was more than $8.3 billion. It is now 2016 and we know from listening and working with corporations that this problem does impact financials and we want to help you with that and save lives in the process. Contact Beacon of Hope Crisis Center today to schedule conversation that makes a difference in your company. By Sandra K. Ziebold Beacon of Hope Crisis Center has a lot going on throughout the month of October for #DVAM and we are kicking it off with our Climb To End Domestic Violence. Take a look at a recent article by Shari Rudavsky about Franciscan Health: http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2016/09/06/st-francis-health-now-franciscan-health/89912180/ By Sandra K. Ziebold Beacon of Hope Crisis Center provides victim advocacy services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our victim advocacy team provides victims with emotional support and help finding resources. Our advocates help victims with filling out paperwork and sometimes go to court with victims. In an effort to best help and get information for victims we reach out to other collaborative partners and organizations such as social service agencies and law enforcement for criminal justice assistance. We have a crisis call hotline team that fields incoming crisis calls. Our team provides assistance with obtaining safe housing, victim advocacy, court advocacy, protective orders, medical and dental care, counseling, emergency hotel stays and many other necessary services through our advocacy programs.
Client NarrativeA domestic violence victim called BOH in need of financial assistance so she could have reliable transportation to get back and forth to work. Through our much needed Victim Assistance Fund and our wonderful partnership with another local Domestic Violence organization, we were able to help assist her in obtaining the financial assistance she needed to solve her car issues, while continually helping the woman move towards self-sufficiency. Victim Advocate Beacon of Hope Crisis Center After a few reschedules of the protective order, a victim of intimate partner violence was finally able to have her day in court! With the assistance of an attorney and advocates, she was able to express concerns for safety and why the order is needed. After a few minutes into the hearing, the Magistrate granted the order and indicated to the abuser that if the order was violated—rather it be directly from the abuser or via a third party—that criminal charges would be filed on behalf of the protected party per the Magistrate’s request.
To know that the protective order truly meant something more than a piece of paper gave the victim a little more hope and trust within the criminal justice system. Thus far, no violations have been made; whereas before the order was granted there were many violations of the initial Ex Parte Order. This is just step one for the victim; as the case remains open, there will be many more steps to take. She is still working with her BOH advocate and with this advocacy assistance and support, these steps will slowly become easier to take. Senior Victim Advocate Beacon of Hope Crisis Center |
