By: Cheyenne Taylor  With the end of 2022 quickly approaching and 2023 on the horizon, we are asking for the assistance of our community to help our agency end this year on a high note. We have been very busy this year with meeting the increasing needs and requests from survivors in our community. In fact, in the first nine months of 2022, we served over 1,000 clients, filed 208 protective orders, received nearly 2,000 crisis calls, and prepared over 1,500 safety plans for victims. Our agency continues to see an uptick in client requests for services. The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to amplify the risks and cause financial issues for victims that they struggle to overcome. Our agency has continued to address those needs and provide an abundance of services to help relieve victims of domestic violence and sexual assault of their burdens. In the first nine months of 2022, we utilized interpreter services for 371 crisis calls, had 52 clients accept referrals for specialized medical care out of the 224 who reported strangulation victimization. Additionally, we provided nearly 750 counseling sessions and shelter referrals to 1,408 domestic violence victims, many of whom were homeless and seeking safe housing. Overall, we provided new and existing clients with 3,693 services, including education on victim rights and the criminal justice system. All of this has been possible due to the diligent efforts of our agency staff, victim advocates, and the contributions from our devoted donors. By donating at the end of the year, you are helping us to continue to meet the growing needs of our clients and allowing us to prepare for these colder months, which bring a slew of unique issues. Representing our nonprofit was Beacon of Hope Crisis Center board member and 100+ Women Who Care member, Jackie Bowman Ponder (pictured here). Thank you 100+Women Who Care Johnson County, for your support. Notable Facts Beacon of Hope Crisis Center served 131 new victims of domestic violence and sexual assault crimes during the month of July 2019. 45 of those victims were from Johnson County. 100+ Women Who Care Johnson County is a giving circle initiative created to support nonprofit organizations who help make our county a better place to live, work and play. Beacon of Hope Crisis Center has a Johnson County satellite office location in partnership with Franciscan Health. 100+ Women Who Care Johnson County is comprised of women who want to make a difference in Johnson County by making a financial commitment to support worthy nonprofits who serve Johnson County. They invite all like-minded women to join them on this mission. Beacon of Hope Crisis Center is working in partnership with Bargersville Veterinary Clinic located in Johnson County to expand our foster pet program. 100+ Women Who Care Johnson County grant recipients may not receive a benefit grant from the 100+ Women group again for two years. Eligibility renews every two years so, when an organization receives a grant, they cannot be nominated again until the two years has passed. They maintain a complete list for Members reference.

An excellent way to lift your spirits is to write down everything you are grateful for. You can do this weekly or daily, whatever works for you and your schedule. Keeping a gratitude journal can improve your mood, make you more resilient, and can even help you live longer. It’s simple! Start your gratitude journal with five things you are grateful for. Repeat this activity at least once a week.

Ziebold  Congratulations to our Indianapolis Brackets For Good nonprofit match-up competitor, Brookside Community Development Corporation (Brookside CDC), on winning Round 2 of the #BFG18 tournament. Thank you for being such a great opponent in the tournament. We immensely thank every donor for helping. We displayed a valiant effort but admit Brookside CDC overtook us in the game. Our team here at Beacon of Hope Crisis Center absolutely wanted to win but we are now thrilled to encourage support for Brookside CDC as they advance to a win in Round 3. What I liked best about this match-up is that the Brookside community received a double win in Round 2! The double win is that both of our organizations serve the Brookside neighborhood and both of our organizations benefited from numerous donations! Every organization competing in Brackets For Good wants to advance and keep raising much needed funds. At the same time as we are disappointed that we lost Round 2 we truly couldn't be more thrilled about Brookside Community Development Corporation advancing in the tournament. Brookside CDC is all about play-based childhood trauma reversal initiatives, societal reentry, and focusing on ending generational poverty to create opportunities of renewal and transformation for the residents of Brookside. Please rally behind them Indianapolis, let's help them win Round 3! 46201 is where a large number of the clients we serve at Beacon of Hope Crisis Center reside. Center Township is one of the reasons why we relocated and expanded our agency, ensuring we were accessible by way of a bus-line. We serve all of Central Indiana and our data shows Marion county and Center Township at the top in our service numbers. Beacon of Hope Crisis Center is focused on helping to reduce our overall homicide rates by serving victims of domestic violence and intervening before situations escalate. I give presentations often and many times I have mentioned the importance of keeping a gratitude journal. I have lots of entries in my gratitude journal about our board of directors. An organization will fail if it does not have the heartfelt dedication, passion and support of its board helping to propel the mission. I feel so inept to convey my gratitude for each every one of our board members. Without their support and guidance our agency could not have achieved what we did this 2017. They are invaluable to our sustainability. I am sincerely grateful for all of them.
Photography by Montana Watson The first annual Give Abuse The Boot gala raised $33K dollars for Beacon of Hope Crisis Center held October 5th during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The Thursday evening event included a dinner and auction at Barn at Bay Horse Inn for 250 participants. The top raffle item, raising $2,100, was an amazing golf package consisting of a Solar Sources Golf Hat and Golf Polo, Golf Balls, Golf Towel, Ping 400 Custom Driver donated by Bunker Run Golf Course, and a $400 Value Course Play at Hillcrest Country Club Golf Course with Golf Carts included. Beacon of Hope’s Board Chair, Jackie Bowman Ponder, entertained the crowd and auctioned off a one-week Pensacola Florida Condo getaway donated by Mike McKinnon, David Yurman earrings donated by Reis Nichols-Greenwood and a Pacers package with winners choice of game night! The Give Abuse The Boot Gala hosted more than 250 guests and featured emcee Lauren Casey of WRTV6. Guests were entertained by “Tastes Like Chicken” Dance Band’s “Chicken Bone” performing acoustic pop rock in the saloon. The highlight of the evening was, Amy McInerny, a survivor who spoke about her featured art sculpture which she created as a part of her healing journey receiving services as a client at Beacon of Hope Crisis Center. “We are truly blessed. The generosity of our guests is so appreciated. The support of all of our sponsors and the dedication of all our board members and volunteers is what made this first initial event such a success,” said Sandra Ziebold – CEO, Beacon of Hope Crisis Center. “We feel fortunate to be able to have these funds to better serve victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in our community.
