By: Savannah Tipton  Beacon of Hope Crisis Center is celebrating another fantastic year with Sandra Ziebold, our Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director (CEO/ED). Over these last six years, she has made great strides in ensuring that victims receive timely and adequate services as well as the success of the agency. She has significantly grown this agency from increasing the number of advocates to the number of victims we have served under her leadership, to the numerous partnerships we have built. Under her direct leadership, advocates been able to go above and beyond in providing services to victims. She has continued to show up in the face of adversity to ensure our services are available to victims in the community throughout this pandemic.
Sandy has continued to prioritize the health and wellness of her team and the victims we serve. She has made steps to reduce the barriers many victims face to ensure victims can receive advocacy services and can access the free services available to them. She has expanded our programs allowing them to be more accessible to victims, especially during this ongoing pandemic. She is an inspiring leader that has developed a team responsible for helping both human and pet victims impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. We want to express our deepest gratitude for Sandy’s time and efforts to help others. We look forward to having many more wonderful years with you! Happy Work Anniversary! By: Cheyenne Taylor  Women across the world came together after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape case in 1992. This case revolved around an 18-year-old girl that was raped by her driving instructor. He was prosecuted and arrested for the crime but appealed his sentence, claiming that they had consensual sex. The Italian supreme court appealed his case, saying that the victim’s jeans were too tight for the rapist to have removed the jeans by himself. So, they argued that she would have had to help her rapist take her pants off, therefore making the act consensual.
Angered by this judgment, Italian women protested by wearing denim jeans and sitting on the steps of the Italian Supreme Court building. Images of these courageous women spread, and the news of the case shocked people across the globe. In 1999, the first American Denim Day was held in LA. Since then, each year, people worldwide wear denim to stand in solidarity with victims of sexual assault and speak out about the harmful effects of victim-blaming, which often results in more pain and suffering for sexual assault victims. Beginning March 2nd, the community of Indianapolis has the opportunity to participate in Brackets For Good, a competition that allows individuals to support their favorite causes and organizations through an online bracket-style tournament. One of the many participants this year is Beacon of Hope Crisis Center (BOHCC), a services and referral nonprofit organization that empowers victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in central Indiana. Alongside this organization participating in Brackets For Good is a corporate partner, Stacked Pickle, supporting their cause by hosting events and encouraging the surrounding communities to donate. “BOHCC served 904 victims this past year and as we continue to grow, it’s increasingly important to not only talk about these tough issues, but to also get our community involved. Being a part of Brackets For Good allows us to have a voice in the community and to share all of the exciting things happening,” said Sandra K. Ziebold, CEO / Executive Director of Beacon of Hope Crisis Center. This year, Beacon of Hope Crisis Center has partnered with Stacked Pickle Southport. Kicking off this exciting partnership there will be a ‘Dine to Donate’ event held on Sunday, March 4th as well as another event loaded with creative fun on the evening of Wednesday, March 7th at the Southport location. "Stacked Pickle Southport is happy to team up with Beacon of Hope Crisis Center. We are always looking for different ways to impact the local community and give back to the guests of our community.
